If you’re looking for somewhere to enjoy fresh juice and healthy food in relaxed surroundings, you’ll want to try Petit Brot in Barcelona.
Located in the trendy Raval district, Petit Brot, which means ‘Little Sprout’ in Catalan, is the creation of raw vegans Laura and Ales.
They wanted to see a place in Barcelona that reflected their vision of healthy, raw vegan food in beautiful surroundings. After building much of the décor themselves out of eco-friendly and mostly locally-sourced materials, and planting sprouts in windowboxes (so they could use home-grown sprouts in their food) their vision was complete.
Petit Brot has an extensive menu of smoothies and cold-pressed juices, all made fresh to order. If you’re not sure what you want, all you have to do is ask for help choosing (and if you’re lucky they might even customise a juice for you!).
They also have a rotating menu of healthy raw lunch food, plus raw snacks, desserts and vegan cheeses you can get for takeaway.
I got to try the raw courgette noodle bolognese. I’m not always the biggest fan of raw food, but I love the bolognese, which was full of flavour.
On another visit, I also tried some of their homemade raw vegan nut cheese spread, which was wonderfully creamy. I only wish I could get my nut cheese that smooth!
They even managed to convince me to try a juice containing cabbage, even though the idea struck fear into my heart (and mouth). They pride themselves in being able to personalise juices to suit people’s tastebuds. The ‘relax and calm’ juice I had was pear, fennel, cabbage, cucumber, lemon and ginger. Somehow all the other flavours balanced out the cabbage and I enjoyed the juice.
